17 January 2010 — Small changes to fares
Some bus fares will rise slightly later this month. Some fares will remain unchanged.
Our Marketing Director, Nigel Eggleton explained, “No one likes to pay more for goods but, despite, the current economic situation a number of our costs have risen significantly. One of the biggest factors is insurance where, in common with private motorists and home owners, we’ve seen a significant increase in premiums.”
“Last spring the government changed the tax regime on our fuel and we’ve managed to absorb the extra costs until now. Another factor is the reduced level of reimbursement we now receive for concessionary travel from the North Yorkshire Consortium. So, reluctantly, we’ve had to pass on some of these extra costs to our passengers.”
Most fares won’t rise, for example all return tickets will be frozen but these changes will apply:
Single Fares:
Our £1.10 single fare changes to £1.20.
Our £2.00 maximum off-peak single fare changes to £2.20.
All other single and all return tickets stay the same.
Day Tickets:
K-Day tickets bought from 0930 on Mondays-Fridays, any time
at weekends change from £3.00 to £3.20.
All other day ticket prices, including K-Day tickets bought before 0930 on Mondays-Fridays, stay the same.
Nigel Eggleton explained, “When the majority of fares that are unchanged and those that are going up are averaged out the overall increase is 2%.”
There’ll be no change to fares in the Craven area where some prices rose in November 2009.
